Vocalwriter manual3/31/2024 This mathematical vocal tract model is the core technology used to make VocalWriter sing. The manual only touches briefly on the underlying technology in this single paragraph:Ĭombining the latest advancements in the acoustic modeling of musical instruments with new breakthroughs in speech synthesis, VocalWriter uses a sophisticated technique called Resonant Articulatory Synthesis™ (RAS) to model the human vocal tract. Fortunately, I was able to get in touch with David Rakowski, who was able to supply me with a copy of the manual. VocalWriter is still available for download, but I haven’t got a Mac to test it out on. It’s too bad, because although it didn’t have a realistic voice, is was very intelligible, and pleasant to listen to. The author died some years back, and the website is defunct. Unfortunately, when the Mac moved to a new chipset, the program no longer ran on the newer architecture. It was written in assembly code for the Macintosh. VocalWriter was a commercial application written by KAE Labs. ( Software Automatic Mouth) in the past I’d be remiss for not also mentioning VocalWriter and SPASM.īoth of these programs were written specifically as synthetic singing programs.
